How Relegation Works in the Premiership
Since there are only 12 teams in the league, as opposed to the 20 in the major European leagues, there is only one direct relegation spot in the Scottish Premiership. Indeed, the team that finishes 12th goes straight to the Scottish Championship.
Following that, the 11th-placed team in the Scottish Premiership plays the 2nd-placed team in the Scottish Championship in a relegation play-off final, similarly to how the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 do. Often, only one team is actually relegated as a result.
